Post-Natal Health

  • Most maternal deaths occur during the postnatal period. New mothers have immense burden of caring for the baby, which leads to neglect towards their own health.
  • Moreover, the prevailing socioeconomic conditions lead to almost non-existent postnatal health checkups.
  • We intend to establish a minimum postnatal health plan for the mother and the newborn, which can be carried out by the birth attendants. These include checking periodically for postpartum bleeding, infection and other complications in the mother.
  • This would also include basic awareness regarding further spacing of children, birth control methods, nutritional supplements and lactation methods. Infections and feeding issues in the newborn would be assessed to timely identify complications and refer to a larger health care unit.
